Stargate SG-1 is the closest thing there's ever been to a true, worthy successor to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Fuck, man.

I very much enjoyed SG-1, but it just went on for too fucking long. It easily could have been cut by 3 seasons or more and have missed out on nothing. After defeating Anubis, it sort of all went down hill from there.

It reminded me of the issue with DragonBall Z where they kept having to make up more and more powerful antagonists, each one more ridiculous than the last.

I'm not sure it's possible to like O'Neill too much.

I am more of a BSG 2003 fan.

I always thought of it more like the original series, but yes the next generation is a decent compairson as well. Until the late seasons. I say this to my Trek loving friends often.

It's an astoundingly good show—I really don't feel like it gets enough credit these days.

Eh, while I certainly didn't enjoy the Farscape-y seasons as much as I did the older stuff, it was still a fun ride. I suppose it helps that I like Farscape so much.

I enjoyed a fair bit of the new BSG, but it was a little too dark and humourless for my tastes—and really fell off a cliff past a certain point. In any case, I certainly wouldn't call it any kind of successor to TNG; the two shows were going for completely different things.

I grew up with TNG, and it's still my favourite Trek, so I tend to think of it a good deal more often than I do TOS. Still, I can certainly see the similarities.

Farscape was the shit. That show and BSG still share my 1A and 1B spots as the best shows that the Sci-Fi channel (fuck you, it's not SyFy!) has ever put out.

For me, it's Farscape and Stargate. I liked bits of the new BSG, but it was just too grim for me, overall.

It kind of had to grow on me. I remember when they first started the series on Showtime, I was a little disappointed. It got better., eventually, but it never made my must see list of shows.
